"The three most important components of our business are professionalism, quality of work, and customer service. Professionalism - Our employees are outfitted with uniforms, our trucks and equipment are cleaned weekly. Quality of work - Upheld by employees continuing education through seminars, trade publications, expos, and providing them with the best equipment. Customer service - This is our number one goal."
Tim's Lawn Service was started in 1994 when, at age 11, Tim Slane Jr. began mowing his neighbors' lawns. By high school, Tim was a teenaged entrepreneur. He attended the Frederick County Career Center and Technology Center to study landscaping. Tim Jr. is a volunteer firefighter with the Libertytown Vol. Fire Dept. and also at the Independent Hose Co. #1 in Frederick MD. In 1999, Tim Jr. received a chapter award in Agri-Entrepreneurship by the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership sponsored by the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization. The next year he was awarded the Youth Entrepreneur Award from the State of Maryland. With his business growing rapidly, Tim Jr. enlisted the assistance of his father, Tim Sr., to incorporate Tim's Lawn and Landscaping Service in 2001. The Tim's officially became partners in this family oriented business.
Tim Slane Sr. has had experience in leadership roles throughout his career as a business owner in the past and present. He continues to attend leadership training, business advancement courses, and landscape enhancements courses. Tim Sr. is actively involved in the local chamber of commerce and volunteers his time at the local fire department.
TLS Crew Foremen are hand picked from experienced personnel. They are responsible for maintaining contact with the client and have the power and authority to make landscaping decisions. Crew Foremen have the ability to advance to the position of General Foremen. Foremen are required to have a minimum of three (3) years experience.
All crewmembers are cross-trained to perform both maintenance and installation work. They attend in house training before they are assigned to a crew. As a crewmember gains experience, they are eligible to advance to a Foreman position. The entire staff is required to participate in all company-sponsored training, as well as attend expos and outside training to further their knowledge of business and landscape advancements. The staff attends weekly safety meetings conducted by TLS's Safety Officer.
